Adjusting the slider buckle under their jaw back a few inches will help. This will make the halter fit snugly around the smaller part of the neck so that the throat latch/crown piece acts like a neck strap. After making the adjustments, you can send us photos of the halter muzzle combination, taken directly from the side and with their head up. The crown piece fits a couple of inches behind the ears, and the throat latch is pretty snug in the groove between the neck and jaw bone. It&apos;s pretty snug but still loose enough for them to do everything they need to do while being way too small to be pulled over the head. We understand that every horse&apos;s proportions are a little different, so your setup may not look exactly like this. Tips for houdini-proofing non-GG halters.

Having something that fits further back behind their jaw and cheekbone (more like where a cribbing collar would go) is key to getting it adjusted snugly enough so it can&apos;t be removed. If you have not done so, please provide a photo of your current halter/muzzle setup on your horse. It should be taken directly from the side with their head up so that we can see how everything is fitting.&#xA0; <span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: Inter; color: rgb(34, 34, 34); background-color: transparent; font-weight: 400; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Our newer halters are updated with an adjustable throat latch, as well as, a longer cheekpiece to allow the fit mentioned above. However, there are some things we can try with a regular halter, like adding a second throat latch or a neck strap. If the halter is fitting tight but in the wrong location, it can actually help your horse pull everything forward and over their ears. When it faces away it can get hooked on something like a fence or another horse&apos;s halter, blanket, etc. This tends to be more dangerous than any issue that might come from the clip facing towards them.

Can I remove or replace the halter clip?

Tips for preventing rubs on horses that have thin hair or sensitive skin.

We recommend a lycra fly mask that fits under the halter to help prevent rubs on horses that have thin hair or sensitive skin. &#xA0;After much testing, we found this <a href="https://www.gg-equine.com/collections/new/products/lycra-fly-mask" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">lycra fly mask</a> to be the most durable and fit the best under halters. &#xA0;Much like how a sock prevents blisters when wearing shoes, the mask fits under the halter and provides a slick surface for the halter to slip across. &#xA0;This mask fits a little bit longer on the nose than most and is perfect for preventing rubs in the noseband area. &#xA0;Depending on where the cheek pieces of the halter sit, the mask can also prevent rubs in that location as well. &#xA0;The neck part is nice and long and can protect rubs that happen behind the ears and under the throat latch/ jaw area too.&#xA0;The&#xA0;<a href="https://www.gg-equine.com/collections/new/products/lycra-fly-mask" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">rub protector fly mask</a> is our favorite solution for preventing rubs from the halter. &#xA0;If using it for just this purpose, it is very easy to trim out any mesh from the ears or eyes if you don&apos;t need/want their ears or eyes covered. &#xA0;Check out this video for a close up look at the&#xA0;<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Spc99q8mRW4" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">rub&#xA0;</a><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Spc99q8mRW4" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">protector fly mask</a>&#xA0;and why we love it so much!
