I have fitting or sizing issues.Updated 4 months ago

If you’ve received your muzzle and have concerns about whether you’ve purchased the right size, take a look at our size guide in this article: Which size muzzle should I buy?

The GG Premium Breakaway halters tend to look large when compared to a standard halter. The cheek piece should span their whole jawbone without having any of the hardware digging into the sensitive areas of their head. They are also designed to fit longer than a traditional halter.

The most important thing for muzzle fit is how much space they have front to back in the muzzle. You want at least three fingers to fit between the front of their nose and the muzzle similar to the photo below. There's often quite a bit of space on the sides as it is designed to shift side to side as they're grazing. So if you can fit at least three fingers between the front of the muzzle and their nose you have the correct size, but if you can't or it's a tight squeeze, then you should probably size up. Otherwise, they tend to have too much contact with the front and back of the muzzle while they're grazing and it can cause chin and nose irritation. Ideally horses aren't touching the sides of the muzzle while they're actually grazing.
