There are teeth marks in my muzzle!Updated a year ago

It is normal to see some marks on the muzzle; however, they should primarily be at the bottom of the muzzle. If you see teeth marks on the sides or corners of the muzzle, your horse is likely roughhousing with other horses, trying to eat through the sides, or getting their mouth through the corner of the muzzle.

If you haven't already, we recommend sending us a photo of the halter muzzle combination on your horse directly from the side with their head up so we can see if an adjustment could be made to prevent this. Next, we almost always recommend adding corner straps to block them or a buddy from reaching their nose out of the corner. It also helps anchor the muzzle a little bit better and keeps them from being able to get their teeth where they shouldn't go. Click here to order your corner straps.*

We recommend using our hook & loop straps because that will grip the nylon halter and not slide back and forth, which will help anchor the muzzle. I would also observe them grazing to make sure they are figuring out how to eat through the bottom of the muzzle and not just spending their time trying to eat around it. If they are doing something strange, let us know, and we'll be more than happy to help you troubleshoot. If there are any rough edges, you can take sandpaper or a file and file them down.

*We recommend this Big Velcro Roll if you have multiple horses that need corner straps.
