Should I clean the insert?Updated a year ago
Constant moisture can create an environment for mold to form on anything, including leather, so we recommend cleaning your insert(s) once a month to remove any bacteria that may have accumulated. If you use your muzzle for only part of the day, we recommend rinsing everything out after removing it for the day, storing it in a well-ventilated area, and possibly even towel drying the insert. The leather is most likely to develop bacteria and possibly mold if it is not in constant use and stored in an area where it's not able to dry. Even a dry piece of stored leather can gather moisture depending on seasonal humidity. If you do notice mold or feel like you need to disinfect any of the inserts, a half-and-half solution of vinegar and water is a great option to wipe/spray on the insert. Give it a rinse before putting it back on your horse as the vinegar smell might be off-putting. If you are completely removing the insert to clean everything, you can also use a simple solution of mild dish soap and water. If your insert starts getting a little stinky, this will help!
