Can my horse still eat hay?Updated a year ago
While our muzzles were not designed for use with hay, many horses do just fine eating hay through them. You can push hay through the holes to give your horse the idea if they are initially struggling to eat hay through their muzzle.
Combining the muzzle with a slow-feed hay net or bag may make it particularly challenging for your horse to eat. We recommend checking with a vet or nutritionist before trying this, as this might not be enough calories to sustain a healthy lifestyle. Even if they need to lose weight, it’s important to do it safely.
If you do decide to use a hay net or bag, we recommend purchasing our Houdini Helper Hook & Loop and Tape Set corner straps and use them instead of the buckle straps that come with the muzzle to avoid the possibility of the buckles getting caught in the netting.
